Just Pass Me By

Don’t honk, don’t cut me off, just pass me by!

Cost of living

Why is it that the cost of living increases but our income does not increase at all. I have noticed that grocery for a while have been on the raise. When I first moved to Minnesota, and I didn’t get a lot of groceries I lived on campus but I got a meal plan and bought some food for when I was unable to eat in the lunch room. Then I moved out on my own, with out any food plan from college, I found my grocery shopping a semester ended up being a lot less then a meal plan and grocery. A week on grocery I would spend between 20 to 35 depending if I needed to get cleaning chemicals, sometimes I wouldn’t even spend a full 20 on food.
Then a couple years ago before I got married I start spending between 30 and 40, and after I got married about 50 to 60 a week. Over the last year our weekly food cost is anywhere from 75 to 120 a week. I am doing much of the same looking for sales and getting more then on sell then ever before.
Well food is just one thing that increase. When I first moved in her my water bill was just over 30 now it’s just under 40, electric hasn’t changed but there are more months when I am picking and choosing which bills to send through.
Gas when I first started driving was well under 2bucks okay that was when I was 18, and now I am in my early 30, so I can’t complain a whole lot, now gas is 3.65 a gal. I used to be able to put less then 20 in the car, now to fill up I am looking at, at least 45 if not over 50. Ouch. Rent has increased by 40 bucks a month also.
So here is my question, why is it that our wages are not increasing half as fast as our cost of living is, how are we supposed to make end meet when everything is going up in cost. My last really stable long term job which was almost 3 or 4 years ago, barely gave us any wage increases and usually they would find a way not to give it to you. I have been looking for a job but it has gotten to the point of where I can not take a job unless it pays at least 10 a hr in order to barely make it by. Even my catfood which used to be under 5 bucks is now 7 bucks. At least the cat don’t eat as much as I do.
My husband has recently took the HDMI cable and started paying that bill. The cost of Health insurance has also increased a lot that most people just can’t offered to help it. With our elections coming up it worries me, because it seems everyone wants to pass stupid laws which will just make things harder for people like my husband and I. They will want to increase taxes and want to pass stupid laws were everyone must have insurance but not provide a way for people to get it.
