Jenny,
Sounds like your a smart driver, the same thing happens here in Minnesota. Since I know where your from, and now how they drive down there, yes they do drive a little to fast. How do you gain expereince with out driving in it, simply put you can't get expereince.
What gets me is those who drive as fast as they can in the snow and lose control of their vehicles, this are dangerous machines and when we are driving them we aught to keep that in mind. Driving in Snow is even more dangerous with a risk taking driver.
I do not mind the slow driver in the snow because I am normally one of those people who are driving slowly, and yes people pass me by but hey as long as they don't hit me let them pass me by.
Tonight coming home we had someone on 494 a fairly major highway driving the wrong way on the westbound lane, now this being said people in Minnesota seem to be some of the most distracted drivers.

Heyyy now! I'm a new driver to snow and such. How does new drivers of snow and ice get experience without driving on it!? LOL. I did have to drive home the other night on some sleet and my anti-lock breaks pulsed at every stop! But I took it slow and made it home. I've lived here for 4 yrs and still not used to it! Other drivers do pass me going way too fast...but that's ok..as long as they leave me be...LOL

I spoke with Customer excellence at the hospital this morning. I was able to voice my concerns and opinions about what has happened with hospice. I feel better now that I was able to get it off my chest and know the hospital will deal with it. They will be sending Dad and I both a letter of the conversation. I really hope hospice will use this as a learning tool and not well make things harder on the family. I hope they learn from this so no family has to feel like mine did this weekend and since we have been dealing with them.

Catmommy and Ms. Kat,

Thank you. I honestly do not think we will try hospice again. I will be contacting a couple of local churchs and seeing if anyone is welling to vulneteer to help dad out.
I am sorry I just don't want to take the chance of dad getting so upset with hospice he also has a heart attack. I don't think Craig or myself could deal with that. We contacted a local catholic church in his area and the priest or one of the nuns is supposed to go over there today and speak with dad. I think the Priest aught to be great, because he should be nuterual.
We recieved no help and I even told hospice I just used my laptop money for college, and all of my college funds that I had saved up. They did not offer any help.
I am not complaining about not having the laptop money now, yes I need that but mom and dad come first. Anyways, I believe eventually I will be able to get a laptop and the one I have right now will do for know, as long as I don't save anymore on to it. Speaking of that I should take all the files and move them to this computer would free up a bunch of space.
The fact is Austin Hospice for the hospital was horrible, I have never felt so alone. Hell when my father died from cancer in Milwaukee WI, at the VA hospital when I had a meltdown it was okay. Their hopsice type people where great to me and my family.
I was scared dad would kill his self yesterday, because of a couple of comments made, the hospital staff didn't notice or get it until I told dad "if I don't hear from you in 30 minutes I will come looking, if I can't find you I will call the police and put a search on you." After he lift they asked if there was a danger. Well golly did you not listen to anything that was said. I had over night to think on what happened yesterday, and I think i might call to speak to their customer service people for excellence.
I wish hospice did what they was supposed to do. Sometimes it best not to say things, and just let the person vent that all dad needed, not to be made his feelings were wrong or unvalid.

Gav, that is not at all how hospice is supposed to work.
What hospice is supposed to do, is to be there for the entire family, not just the patient who is passing away.
They are supposed to help each family member with grief counseling, with information, help them get any type of social programs that can help them pay for a home health aide, someone who can come in and help dad around the house if he needs it. To help the family members who have to travel any type of distance, get close and affordable hotel/motel rooms to stay in, and also help them find places that can help with meal vouchers so the cost of being in a town far away from home, isn't an even bigger burden that it already is.
Hospice is supposed to know about all of the local social community programs that can offer all kinds of help from lodging for family members from out of town, help paying for meals and gas, help for the spouse at home if they are elderly like a home health nurses aide who will come in and make sure dad is taking his medications, eating properly, monitoring his blood pressure if he has heart problems.
If he will be in the home alone and needs help keeping up the house, they should also know of local maid services who offer charity cleaning hours to hospice families in need.

Seriously, I could go on and on about what hospice is supposed to do.
If the hospice that works at the hospital is that bad, call around the town for another local hospice group, there should be more of them, not just that one associated with the hospital.

Here is a listing of other hospices in the Austin Minnesota area for you to call and check in to.
Scroll down the page for the listings, they say they have 73 different hospice listings.

Oh, my goodness, how awful for you all. Hospice, and the medical profession in general, should be compassionate and sensitive not only to the patient, but to the patient's family as well. This sort of thing is totally unacceptable, and you guys have the right to be angry and upset.

I truly hope that you can find all of the help you need, from someone who cares.

You and your family are in my thoughts.
